On March 1st, 2024, the CDC updated COVID-19 recommendations.
The new guidance advises that COVID-19, the flu (Influenza A or B), and RSV be managed with the same recommendations.
If you are exposed to COVID-19, the flu, or RSV, you can continue to attend work or school if you are healthy and not showing signs of illness. It is not required that you wear a mask at this time, but some people will choose to do so.
People who test positive for COVID-19 no longer need to stay home for a specific number of days. Individuals sick with COVID-19, the flu or RSV should stay home and away from others to prevent the spread of illness.
Guidelines for return to work or school after having COVID-19, the flu or RSV:
For 24 hours your symptoms are getting better overall
No fever for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication
Individual feels well enough to participate in work or class
There is no longer a required or mandated 10 days of masking. However, the CDC does encourage masking for 5-days upon return to normal activities for anyone who has been sick with COVID-19, the flu, or RSV.
The CDC also advises:
People that are at higher risk of severe disease should wear masks in public settings when rates of illness are high.
Staying up to date with vaccinations to protect people against serious illness. This includes flu, COVID-19, and RSV vaccinations if eligible.
Practice good hygiene by covering coughs and sneezes, washing or sanitizing hands often and cleaning frequently touched surfaces.
Taking steps for cleaner air, such as bringing in more fresh outside air, purifying indoor air, or gathering outdoors.
