M.S.A.D. # 30
NUTRITION REIMBURSEMENT POLICY
The Board is responsible for all matters relating to the operation of schools, including the National School Lunch Program. Responsibilities involve verification of procedures for the provision of free and reduced meals under the federal standards. As well, the Board provides nutritional meals, including government commodities and local purchases, with fair pricing – both of which are regulated and approved by the State of Maine Nutrition Committee.
State and National programs encourage all parents to review free and reduced application materials annually to determine qualification related to family income. Should parents not qualify, or choose not to apply, they become responsible for full payment to the district program for their child(ren)(s) meals on a timely basis established by the Board.
Current Federal and State regulations direct that children in grades K-3 may not be denied service, regardless of lack of payment. Students in grades 4-12 may be declined meal service due to non-payment, beyond a time period established by the MSAD 30 Board of Directors.
MSAD 30 Board of School Directors has established a period of continuation of services of five days beyond the most recent payment for students in grades 4 though 12. This standard may be adjusted by the district if responsible action is taken by parents, and arrangements are made for timely payment with the school district.
In the event of non-payment for any student, whether K-3 or 4-12, the district retains the right to pursue legal action against parents for recovery of payment.
It is the intention of the Board of Directors, that nutritious and affordable meals be available to all students. It is further the responsibility of the Board to be fiscally responsible to the citizens of the district in all areas of School District financial matters.
