General Information
A. Purpose
The purpose of this Crisis, or Emergency Management, Plan is to make school personnel and administration aware of their responsibilities in emergency situations. This Plan will provide the basis for coordinating protective actions prior to, during, and after a variety of emergencies.
Medical: life threatening and non-life threatening
Psychological: unexpected death, suicide threat, suicide
Weather or nature related: flooding, earthquakes, tornadoes, or severe storms
Man-made situations: fire, explosions, chemical accidents, power failures
Terrorism: bomb threats, unauthorized persons on campus, persons with weapons, etc.

1. Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training

e. first-aid supplies (gloves, bandages, mouth shield, ice packs, sanitary napkins, paper towels, garbage bags, tape, alcohol swabs)
f. list of students who leave the classroom regularly for specials (Title 1, Special Education, Migrant Services, Music, etc.)
g. several student early-release forms (in case parents come to pick them up)
h. student health information (allergies, medical conditions, need for medication, etc.)
i. student emergency cards with parent names and phone numbers for work and home
j. red flags or cloth (missing student)
k. green flags or cloth (all accounted for)

Step 1: Call the ambulance at 911, and give them the following information:
a. Your name and the school’s telephone number
b. The location of the school
c. The name of the person injured or severely ill
d. The nature of the injury or severe illness
e. What entrance the ambulance should come to, and whether there will be someone watching for them to show them where to come.
f. Stay on the phone until the hospital says that it is okay to hang up!
Step 2: Call the school nurse
Step 3: Call the parents of the student, or family member if an adult
Step 4: Provide needed assistance or care, within the scope of your training, until the nurse arrives. Do not provide medication unless directed to do so by the school nurse or doctor, unless the child needs immediate application of an epinephrine pen for a severe allergic reaction (such as a bee sting) or needs albuterol for asthma. Refer to the child’s emergency medical card or the nurse’s list for relevant medical information, and provide this information to ambulance personnel.
